Bio -

Jennifer Argo is a visual artist currently living and working in Glasgow, Scotland. Based at Glasgow Sculpture Studios, she employs a multi-disciplinary practice of sculpture, illustration, photography and installation.

She creates meticulous hyper-detailed illustrative works of natural systems and forms, slowing down the drawing process to create emphasis on a consideration of time that extends beyond the here-and-now purview of our current economic and socio-political climate. Her sculptural, installation-based and illustrative work explores natural habitats that are under threat from global warming and deforestation. She seeks to trace environments that are fragile, our relationship to ecosystems, and natural networks as a metaphor for community, and how we can draw inspiration from ecological and geological systems for sustainable design in the built environment.

Jennifer’s design practice focuses on creating sanctuary habitats, be it spaces that incite communal engagement, or peaceful habitats for individuals to reflect and relax, and feel connected to a broader natural or community-based context. At the moment she is working on indoor installations that utilise natural light, water, and micro-ecosystems from Scotland’s wetland forests, using modular planters made in neutral tones in white concrete and clear resin, for indoor gardens. The modular forms reflect structures found in the built environment, which contrast with the plant-life from Scotland’s coastal forests.
